Effects of therapeutic exercise and physical activity on the functional status and quality of the life in elderly with chronic low back pain.
Abstract
Main purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of a therapeutic exercise program and the increase of physical activity (walking) on the functional status and quality of life in elderly people with chronic low back pain. In the present study 120 individuals between 60 to 80 years participated, 50 of whom were men, aged 68.54 (+ 4.49) and 70 women, aged 67.56 (+ 5.72) with low back pain for more than 12 weeks. Data was collected with pedometer of Yamax SW200 Digiwalker type, with the self-report questionnaire SF36, with the self-report questionnaire ODI and with functional tests "sit up" and "turn up and go". Participants were classified randomly in three groups. The first group was the group of exercising the core stabilization muscles of the lumbar spine, while for the intervention biofeedback pressure Chattanooga mechanism was used.
