Comparative evaluation of the quality of life in the greek medium-sized cities
Abstract
This doctoral thesis deals with the elaboration of a new methodology and set of criteria for the comparative evaluation of the Quality of Urban Life (QOUL) and their application to Greek medium-sized cities. As QOUL, in common with any concept dealing with personal perceptions and attitudes, implies an increased degree of subjectivity, it is not amenable either to a commonly accepted definition or to some standard evaluation formula. However, the need for establishing a common set of criteria for research on the subject is increasingly acknowledged, as it will enable comparison between different QOUL studies across time and space.The thesis contributes to meeting this need by introducing the DPRD-50 [from the acronym of the university department in which it was elaborated] urban indicators model.
