The method that is used is this doctoral thesis is the historical – critic and interpreted one. Specifically the historical, social, economic and cultural environment, in which st. Kosmas Aitolos lived and acted, is examined and analyzed. Simultaneously the pedagogical views reflected through his preaching are analyzed, scrutinized under the optics and the bounds of the Orthodox Christian Education.
This study is divided in five chapters.
The first chapter is titled: «The life of st. Kosmas Aitolos and the general status quo in Greek countryside at that time». Specifically it’s about the life of st, Kosmas Aitolos and the first course of general education, about st. Kosmas Aitolos and the first course of general education, about st. Kosmas Aitolos himself as a student in Athonias school, the undertaking of his missionary work and at last the economic, social and cultural tyranny of the enslaved Greeks at that time.

The second chapter has the title: «The meaning of Education, the educational condition and experiences of st. Kosmas Aitiolos and his Ministration at the place of the Greek – Orthodox Education of the enslaved Nation». It includes the concepts (the meaning) of Education in general and its connection with Greek – Orthodox heritage and its depictions in st. Kosmas Aitolos preaching. Then the educational conditions and experiences of st. Kosmas Aitolos, specifically: The foreign philosophers and pedagogues’ like John Locke, Jean Jeacques Rousseau, Immanuel Kant and Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi as well as the Greek philosophers and pedagogues’ like Eugenios Bulgaris, Nikolaos Zarzoulis or Tzarzjoulis, Iosipos Misiodakas and Adamantios Korais influences on pedagogical thinking of st. Kosmas Aitolos. Finally, the ministration of the Greek – Orthodox Education of st. Kosmas Aitolos is scrutinized.
Τhe third chapter is title: «The main orientation of the Pedagogical thinking and act in the preaching of st. Kosmas Aitolos and the individual aims of his teaching». The chapter in these includes: the main orientations of the pedagogical thinking and act in st. Kosmas Aitolos preaching like the barriers in islamization of enslaved Greeks, the keeping of the state of separate existence as main characteristic of their Nation and the encouragment and strengthening for the correspondence of the enslaved people to the difficult conditions of life. Also, this chapter refers to the main individual aims of the preaching of st. Kosmas Aitolos such as the acknowledgement of the equality of men and women and the equality of human rights, the consolidation of the need of prevalence of the Law and Justice, the critical attitude towards the wealth ant usury, the realization of the necessity of labour and the importance of Sanday’s holiday.
The fourth chapter is titled: «Factors in Pedagogic thinking and act in st, Kosmas Aitolos preaching and its role: This chapter, first and foremost, refers to family as the basic factor of Greek – Orthodox children’s Education of enslaved Greeks. It tasks about marriage, family, child bearing and parents as a factor of Orthodox – Christian upbringing.
Then it comes school and its role in Greek – Orthodox Education of children and young people of the enslaved Greeks. It also refers to free Education according to st. Kosmas Aitolos and the dire need for foundation and running of schools, the organizing and running of school itself and to school as a factor of the culture of Orthodox – Christian Education. Further to, it is analyzed the role of the Orthodox Catholic Church as savior of the Nation as well as its contribution to the state separate existence of the enslaved Greeks to be kept with specific reference to Devotional and sacramental upbringing and Education of enslaved Greeks, to the attending Mass of the faithful, the Fasting and Prayer, the position of virgin Mary in the Orthodox people’s life and the role of Orthodox priest and his welfare for the enslaved Greeks.
The fifth chapter has the title: « The main characteristics of a sound teaching according to st. Kosmas Aitolos and the role of the Educator – Pedagogue». It includes the Educator – Pedagogue’s preparation as well as the characteristics of a good teaching.
