The role of scanning laser polarimetry (GDXVCC) in the early diagnosis and serial analysis of glaucoma
Abstract
Purpose: Comparison of GDxVCC parameters in subjects with exfoliation syndrome (XFS), exfoliative glaucoma (XFG), primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and normal controls. Methods: We compared and analyzed prospectively the GDxVCC parameters in 64 consecutive subjects with XFS and normal intraocular pressure, 73 with XFG, 107 with POAG and compared them with 72 consecutive normal controls. One eye from each of 316 participants was analyzed. Data were summarized with means (adjusted for age differences) and standard deviations (SD). Retinal nerve fiber layer parameters (TSNIT average, Superior and Inferior average, TSNIT Std. Dev. and NFI) between groups were compared employing the two-tailed independent samples t-tests and the Mann-Whitney U test after correction for the age between the groups. All reported p-values were two-tailed with p<0.05 considered as significant. Results: The XFS individuals in ail comparisons, show significantly lower values for GDx parameters (TSNIT, Superior, I ...
