With these remnants scattered in this area created an environment that characterizes the city.The subject of the PhD thesis, entitled "The development of old mining - metallurgical sites in the Lavrion area."The issue is of particular interest because:• It provides (in its historical dimension) possibilities for interpretations of events and situations of interest to the entire country.• It provides the opportunity to explore important aspects of technological reality and to understand the different aspects of the society ties.• It allows to have an empirically approach of the question of technology.The aim of the thesis: The attempt to reveal and understand the current importance of the technical monuments of Lavrion. For this purpose we accept the conditions:• Starting point and basis: to have the essential knowledge of these techniques monuments.• Exposure: to be the knowledge that underpin the values that have helped to create these monuments, and the values that these monuments created.• Direction: the effort to focus on the same machines, constructions and installations, the logic of origin. We are interested in the substance, this one that does not change and constitutes their individuality.The methods of the dissertation: In the PhD thesis the following methods were used:1. Industrial archeology: The technical monument is considered a source of information. As an example was used the ladder for the loading of cargo of French Mines Company. 2. Phenomenological description: the practice of industrial archeology research is widening through the phenomenological description. This approach leads to the empirical view of the technical object and the search for the substance. Therefore, the direction of research is on the substance of the premises of the French Mining Company of Lavrion which is the technical monument which we have chosen to present and was built in 1888.3. Theory of personalization: Completion of the substance of the technical object as to the manner in which the technical object is given and as to how is being presented.Conclusions -Proposals : The Greek society has limited collective experience in projects related to technology.The proposal is about the way we can shape collective experience conditions, with reference to technology.This special experience is aimed at activating the recruitment methods of the object of the particular metallurgical production.Interested to understand, through the accessible to the whole community knowledge, the origin and the suffering of the use of such items. This is the approach, according to which explained how substantial technical work is transformed into a technical monument.This thesis consists three stages:I. We have always this technical monument in front of our physical presence.II. Integrating the offered views relative affinities of other such expected that potentially will show a recognizable empirical section: a crusher, a furnace and so on.III. With successive reductions, approach the logic constituting the monument and at the same time based on it.Technical monuments of the industrial Lavrion, should be considered as connected with their position, as they are in the state they are in today. Always there is the possibility of some of the machines or existing plants, constitute infrastructure for experimental testing or other special uses with interest related to universities or other relevant bodies.Is recommended periodically (every year) to select a number (two or three) technical monuments and presented to the public. The presentation shall be carried forward to the monument. The purpose of the presentation is, starting from the empirical object to approach the essence of the phenomenon. Given the technical monument, now, as it stands in place and disambiguating the causal relationships that control it we are trying to learn through the expressions and the words:•Education (learning places with notable advantages, neutralize fragmentation voltage of the educational process, etc.)•Familiarization (ownership of technology, employee qualities, knowledge activation, the visitor impressions).
