IN PALEOCENE-EOCENE, THE DB TECTONIC EVENT PROBABLY TOOK PLACE, IN A REGIONAL SUBSTRUCTION REGIME, THAT CAUSED THE HIGH PRESSURE METAMORPHISM OF THE PREVELI GROUP. DURING THE UPPER EOCENE / EARLY OLIGOCENE, THE DO EVENT TOOK PLACE IN ALL THE UPPER NAPPES, CAUSING A WESTWARDS NAPPE STACKING AND THE FORMATION OF THE TECTONIC "MELANGE". IN LATE OLIGOCENE / EARLY MIOCENE, THE D1 COMPRESSION AFFECTED THE WHOLE NAPPE PILE AND IS RELATED WITH THE SOUTHWARDS THRUSTING AND THE UNDERPLATTING OF THE LOWER NAPPES, THAT WERE METAMORPHOSED UNDER HIGH PRESSURE CONDITIONS. A MINOR D3 COMPRESSION TOOK PLACE IN LATE MIOCENE. THIS STUDY INDICATES THAT THE TECTONIC EVOLUTION OF CRETE IS RELATED WITH THE EVOLUTION OF THE CYCLADES AREA.
